In its July 2005 edition of the Star & Shield, Mr. John R. Stites, President of the Professional Peace Officer’s Assocation (“PPOA”), commented in his “Straight Talk” article regarding his perception of the role OIR has played in providing oversight to LASD. In August, we provided a written response requesting inclusion in the Star & Shield in the hope that the response would help eliminate some of the confusion about the role of OIR that was exhibited in the article. Since we have not received any response from Mr. Stites regarding our request for publication, we include our response below for the benefit of PPOA and all LASD employees.
